Industrial Skills Training Academy (ISTA) is a groundbreaking, tuition-free trade program created by U.S. Sugar to build the next generation of skilled professionals.

Our three-year program combines hands-on experience, classroom learning, and paid training — all within a custom-built, state-of-the-art training facility. At ISTA, you’ll gain the real-world skills needed for a stable, high-paying career in industrial maintenance, agricultural heavy equipment mechanics, and mechanical operations.

ISTA’s immersive curriculum is designed to get you career-ready — with a strong foundation in core industrial disciplines and hands-on training that mirrors real job environments.

Year 1 

All Students
Build the Basics

Core electrical and mechanical theory

Safety, math, and blueprint reading

Lab-based tool and equipment training

Year 2

Multi-craft Students

  • Applied hydraulics and pneumatics

  • Motor control, welding, diagnostics

  • Work on live systems in a supervised setting

Year 2

Heavy Equipment Diesel Students

  • Equipment safety & component ID

  • Electrical systems & diagnostics

  • Engine teardown & rebuild

  • Fuel, air & cooling systems

Year 3

Multi-craft Students

  • Automation & PLCs (programmable logic controls)

  • Troubleshooting and efficiency

  • Final capstone and transition-to-work support

Year 3

Heavy Equipment Diesel Students

  • A/C systems & EPA 608 certification

  • Hydraulics: pumps, valves & cylinders

  • Transmissions, drivetrains & final drives
